Leotards For Well Endowed Dancers

New dance year, new leos.  Couldn’t pass up sharing this post again!

One look around most studios and you know that dancers come in a variety of shapes and sizes.  The stereotypical small busted ballerina is not always the norm.  If you have a dancer who is more well endowed, you know how important it is to invest in a quality supportive leotard.   If you haven’t invested in a leo like this or maybe you didn’t realize they existed, then this is the post for you.  Your dancer will be so glad you read this!

Leotards for busty girls

It’s important for your dancer to be able to move freely and leap without worrying that they don’t have enough support.  Sure you can throw on a sports bra underneath a leo if your studio allows that, but if you are looking for something that doesn’t require wearing a sports bra underneath, check out three of my dancer’s favorite brands.

1.  Jule

2. Wear Moi

3.  Gaynor Minden

We were able to find these brands at two different dance stores in our area.  Every leotard my dancer puts on, we put it through the test in the dressing room – jump up and down, bend this way and that etc.  Not only do these leotards provide excellent support for their chest, they also tend to stay in place on the rear as well.  Equally important so they can focus on dancing and not tugging at their leotard.

I will warn you they are more expensive, but they are worth every penny.  My dancer has each of the leotards pictured above, they wash well, continue to look brand new and hold everything in place so she can focus on the task at hand!

If you have a favorite leotard brand, leave a comment and let us know.  We love to try new products!

  1. I know this post is several months old, my daughter and I both dance (ballet and other styles), and we are both rather big chested. My daughter (in her youth and beauty, having wonderfully perky boobs) goes without a support leo. And I’m jealous, I even bought one for her to try, but she wouldn’t even try it… I’m still working on her (I think she’ll crack and try it in the end). Called Bratek. I wore it (as we are the same size), I liked it, but at my age (and desperate need for SUPPORT), I prefer using a tank style leo with a sports bra from Victoria’s Secret. They [V.S,] recently started making awesome bras for chesty athletes (finally)! I wore one for a performance after the teacher told us NO sports bras, and she didn’t notice (or at least didn’t say anything), because she couldn’t tell. Back to the Bratek leo, I think my daughter would love it, IF my teacher decided to be a strict about the no bra rule, I’d opt for using this leo out of any other. It hooks in the back (under the leo) just like a bra… which means you MIGHT just need someone to hook it for you, I’ve hooked it myself once, but I’m sure that was luck rather than skill, and not likely repeatable on a regular basis.

Now I’m coming up on competition season and the costumes often don’t allow for bras with straps (I’m not competing, my daughter is), looks like I’m going to have to teach her the art of taping those puppies down! 🙁 Or… develop some mad sewing skillz between now and the 5th of February!

  2. Can you suggest specific leos at each of these websites? I wouldn’t even know where to start as they have many models.

  3. I am a very busty dancer and I have been searching for a post like this for a very long time. All of my companions stay small and boxy the typical shape of a dancer, while I have a very curvy yet petite figure. Jumping is very difficult for me and I have been increasingly frustrated as all the leotards my studio recommend have virtually 0 support! Thank you so much, this post is a lifesaver
    Ps.
Ivivva is a great online brand and has very supportive and molding leotards!

  4. Hi all! Thank you for this helpful blog post! The most supportive Jule leotards are the Luster, Royal and Royalette. Here is a working link to the leotard page. The one above is an expired link. Happy dancing!!
