A few quick tips from your fellow dance moms can make all the difference when you are trying to perfect a smooth and sleek ballet bun for class, recital or competition. As many a dance mom has learned, keeping the process quick and easy keeps both the dancer and Mom happy.
Damp Hair
Working with damp hair allows you to smooth down the hair and get rid of lumps more easily. A simple spray bottle is an essential tool.
Gel
Hair gel allows for a sleek and polished look. If your dancer’s hair is not gelled down, flyaways are easily noticed under the stage lights.
Appropriate Hair Accessories
Depending on the length and thickness of your dancer’s hair, you may prefer to work with bobby pins, hairpins, spin pins or a combination. Be sure to have plenty on hand such that your dancer’s hair is secure while moving.
Hair Net & Hair Spray
A hair net matching your dancer’s hair color will eliminate pieces of hair from popping out of the bun allowing for a more professional look. After applying the hair net, finish with hair spray.
Practice
Always important when your dancer is young. Be sure to do a test run well before picture day or recital day so that you have everything you need and both you and your dancer are not stressed during the process.
